All Habitat donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law and will be acknowledged with a letter you may use for those purposes. Since we take our responsibility to contributors and partner families seriously, your donation will be used carefully to best serve our community and organization.

It's safe, quick, and easy to support the house building, hope-building work of HFH of NW CT through the Habitat for Humanity International Website!

The secured donation system protects your credit card information. When you have completed the contribution process, you may close the secure browser window to return to the Northwest Connecticut Habitat web site.

If you live in Canaan, Cornwall, Falls Village, Norfolk, Salisbury or Sharon Connecticut, and you follow the steps below you can be assured that the funds are directed to home construction in these communities. To be certain that our affiliate as the recipient of your donation – First click on the link below to go to the HFH International donation page. On that page select the orange "Designate Your Gift" button on the left. This opens a new window. In the "Affiliate Name" box type in "NW Connecticut" and then click the search button. Select our affiliate and then proceed to fill out you donation information.

If you do not specify our affiliate, the donation will be applied to the Habitat for Humanity International general fund.

In-Kind Donations

Our affiliate has greatly benefited over the years by the donation of various items and services. Building materials, such as windows, doors, siding, roofing materials and kitchen cabinets have been happily incorporated into our homes. Also working kitchen appliances have been welcome. Donated items that we are not used in our homes are normally conveyed to other Habitat groups, other affordable housing organization, needy families or sold to generate funds that enable us to purchase other building materials. While we encourage donated items, we are unable to accept items targeted for a specific home. Besides promoting affordable housing, your donation encourages recycling and affords tax deductions.

Gifts of Land

Donations of buildable land are welcome and can have an immediate and direct impact on our ability to build in the NW Corner. If you can help, we'd like to talk to you!

So far all of the homes built by HFHNWCT have been constructed on donated land. We are currently seeking land in Norfolk, North Canaan and Sharon. If you know of a property or would like to speak to us about the donation or sale of your property, please contact our President at president@habitatnwct.org.

Tag Sale/This 'n' That Store Items

We accept donations throughout the year of most household items for our annual August Tag Sale and for the Habitat run This 'n' That store in Canaan.

We do not accept clothing, books, records, computer equipment, hard-sided luggage or televisions.

Items can be dropped off during store hours or contact John Pogue, 435-9626 for pick up.

Donate a car to Cars for Homes

Car donations can help a family within your local community build a house and the hope of a better life!

Donate your old car to HFH of NW CT and help fund a new, affordable home! Your car, boat, camper or truck might just help a family build the home of their dreams. Through a partnership with Cars for Homes HFHNWCT takes your vehicle — old or new, running or not — and uses the proceeds to help build new homes.

Plus, when you donate your car, your vehicle donation may be eligible for tax deduction purposes if you itemize. (Consult the IRS or your tax adviser for details.)

Planned Giving

HFHNWCT has been working in partnership with low-income families since 1990, providing them with the opportunity to lift themselves into a higher standard of living. Since then, we've seen how our mission has touched those involved and we're honored to have the sustained support of so many donors and volunteers in the NW corner community.
